Stavanger Seilforening

Stavanger Seilforening is the official sailing club in Stavanger, with its home harbour and dinghy facilities on Sølyst and the club’s own island Langøy in the Ryfylke archipelago. The club runs a fully equipped harbour with crane, berths, shore power and winter storage, and offers members a boat pool including Express, J/70 and 2.4mR boats. Children, juniors and adults can take courses and training in Optimist, ILCA and other classes, including the beginner programme Superseil and adult courses on the B-One. The club is NSF-certified as child- and youth-friendly, organises many regattas, and runs the Wednesday races as well as the cruising challenge SeilUt.

History

Stavanger Seilforening is Stavanger’s sailing club with its main base at Sølyst harbour. The harbour is central to club life: members keep boats there, use the crane, rigging facilities, quick slip and winter storage, and follow harbour rules for mooring and electricity. Alongside the marina, the club runs a dinghy centre on Sølyst and owns the island Langøy for overnight trips and club weekends. In keelboats, Stavanger Seilforening is the class club for 2.4mR on Hafrsfjord; Express boats race regularly in the Wednesday series, and the club owns a J/70 whose operating model was adopted at the board meeting on 5 March 2024. The boat pool shares Express, J/70, 2.4mR and a Snipe for members without their own boat. In dinghies the club focuses on racing Optimist, ILCA and Snipe, with structured learning through Superseil and adult courses. Stavanger Seilforening meets NSF requirements for a child- and youth-friendly sailing club and organises many regattas, courses and the SeilUt cruising challenge; the website news archive goes back to 2012.
