SV Stahl Finow Abteilung Segeln
The sailing section of Sportverein Stahl Finow e.V. is a Brandenburg Sailing Association state training base and is located on Lake Werbellin in the Schorfheide, municipality of Schorfheide near Eberswalde in the Barnim district northeast of Berlin. The club harbour is at Wildau No. 37, district Eichhorst, and offers berths with electricity and water as well as a slipway with crane for dinghies and smaller boats. Juniors train in Optimist, ILCA and 420 classes; besides regattas on Lake Werbellin and away, there is cruising sailing and joint events with neighbouring clubs on the lake. Youth training has shaped the club since the 1960s; together with canoeing, handball and a general sports group it is among the largest sports clubs in the Barnim district.
History
Since the 1960s, Sportverein Stahl Finow has trained young people in its sailing section. The first boat classes were Optimist and Pirate; Cadet was added later. In the 1980s the training group reached up to 30 children, made possible by many volunteer coaches and support from the Finow rolling mill. Today the section focuses on training young sailors and promoting regatta sailing in Optimist, Laser/ILCA and 420. It is a state sailing base of the Brandenburg Sailing Association and part of one of the largest sports clubs in the Barnim district, together with canoeists, handball and a general sports group. The harbour at the western end of Lake Werbellin in Wildau below the Askanier Tower is the home waters and starting point for training, regattas and cruising. Annual highlights are regattas on Lake Werbellin such as the Spring Regatta, Keel Cruiser series and Werbellin Lake Regatta, organised via manage2sail; juniors also compete in regional and national events. Together with Wassersportverein Werbellinsee and Yachtclub Schorfheide, the section also runs regional cruising sailing events on the lake.
