History

The Styrian Yacht Club Grundlsee (StYC) looks back on a long club tradition on Lake Grundlsee. On 20 July 2024 the club celebrated its 70th anniversary with members, friends and guests; the Aussee regional television also reported on the jubilee. The club fosters active community life with joint work parties to winterise and re-commission jetties, crane and other club facilities, as well as annual general meetings, for example at Gasthof Stöckl. Sportingly, club series such as the StYC Cup, the club championship, the Backenstein Trophy and the Gössl Cup shape the season; the Styrian Sailing Association also hosts the Green Panther Cup at Grundlsee. Racing fleets include Soling crews as well as ILCA and H-Boat sailors. Youth development centres on the Optimist course for children aged 7 to 14. Key figures of Styrian sailing such as Fritz Stangl and Günther Dämon were closely linked to the club. Today the StYC presents itself as the yacht club on the Styrian Sea with a continuous regatta and youth programme.
