Segelsällskapet Roxen
Segelsällskapet Roxen is a small sailing club with about 70 members and around 35 boats in Linköping on the Stångån river and Lake Roxen. The club yard lies upstream on the Stångån near the city centre and offers a slipway, clubhouse and workshop in a sheltered setting; about 20 boats are kept there during the season. In summer and autumn the club uses the jointly run Linköping sailing harbour on Lake Roxen, and many members continue via the Göta Canal into the Baltic archipelagos. Compulsory work duty at the yard, member meetings and the Roxen chart project shape club life; new members and additional boats at the yard are welcome.
History
Segelsällskapet Roxen was founded in 1927 originally as Segelklubben Måsen; canoe sailing came first, keelboats soon followed, and after a few years the club took its present name. At the yard and in the combined club and building hall upstream on the Stångån near central Linköping, members built many wooden boats over the years, including Vindö boats, M 30s and Folkboats; later glassfibre semi-finished boats were completed and wooden boats renovated. Summer and autumn activity centres on Lake Roxen from the shared Linköping sailing harbour; many boats go via the Göta Canal into the Baltic archipelagos, including Fyrfjärden in Gryt and St. Anna. Once each summer the club holds its traditional Träffen gathering, often at Stugvik on Stora Ålö. The chapter of the club island Stora Sneholmen on Roxen ended after 90 years on 1 June 2022 when the lease returned to owner Lagerfelt. Today the club has about 70 members and around 35 boats and works among other things on the Roxen project for a new chart of the lake.
