Segelsportclub-Rursee e.V. (SSCR)
Segelsportclub Rursee e.V. (SSCR) is a family-oriented non-profit sailing club in Woffelsbach on Lake Rur in the Eifel region, active on the water since 1963. The club grounds feature two marinas with a total of 65 berths for dinghies and keelboats, a clubhouse with a large terrace and barbecue facilities, and storage for club-owned Optimists and Pirats. The club welcomes beginners and experienced sailors alike, runs an active youth programme with its own junior boats and seasonal training, and hosts national and international regattas. The annual Pirat ranking regatta "Hackebeil vom Rursee" in June is a highlight of the club calendar. Alongside racing and youth work, the SSCR has cultivated cruising and a lively club community across generations since its founding.
History
Segelsportclub Rursee (SSCR) traces its origins to 1961, when an informal group of friends began building a boat pier. On 9 January 1963, the Segelsportclub Rursee was officially founded with 18 members. Demand grew steadily and membership increased. In 1965 the club decided to build a pier with 12 to 14 berths. By 1972 this proved insufficient and a much larger pier was planned. Thanks to members' dedicated effort, the new structure with 60 berths was inaugurated in 1973. Initially the club had no clubhouse of its own in Woffelsbach due to limited funds and lack of land. In 1966 a room was rented at the hotel "Der kleine Seehof" above the pier. Persistence by the board led to a move on 1 October 1970 into the building at Seestraße 24, still the clubhouse today. Extensions, a larger terrace and a barbecue hut followed over the years, with ongoing investment in maintenance. The club has always promoted racing on the lake. The "SSCR coat of arms" was introduced in 1966; in some years more than 170 boats took part in regattas. The first "Hackebeil vom Rursee" Pirat regatta was held in 1975 and is still organised by the SSCR. Cruising has been part of club life from the start, with trips from Lake Rur to the Baltic and later the Mediterranean; in 1986/1987 a yacht under the SSCR flag reached Los Angeles, Tahiti, Bora Bora and Tonga. Willi Berks joined early, became 1st chairman and shaped the club until his death in 1983. Anneliese Bünten succeeded him; after a long term she passed the role to her son Michael Bünten, who still leads the club with great personal commitment.
