Segelsportclub Kahl e.V.
Segelsportclub Kahl e.V. was founded in 1973 and sails on Lake Kahl (Freigericht Ost) in Kahl am Main, about 25 kilometres south-east of Frankfurt am Main. The 37-hectare inland lake with excellent water quality offers ideal conditions for competitive dinghy sailing in the classes Schwertzugvogel, Korsar, 420er, ILCA, Europe, Optimist and RS Venture. The attractively situated clubhouse at Birkenanger provides moorings for around 40 boats as well as dedicated SSC parking on the club grounds. The diverse programme includes youth work with Opti training week, Friday training, weekend youth training, internal club championships, the Sandhasen regatta for Korsar and Seggerling classes, and powerboat licence training on the lake. More than 190 members, including many children and young people, shape an active club life with regatta sport, successful junior sailors and annual offshore trips to European sailing areas.
History
Segelsportclub Kahl e.V. was founded in 1973 and developed into one of the most active sailing clubs in the Aschaffenburg and Frankfurt area. Sailing takes place on Freigericht Ost in the municipality of Kahl, known as Lake Kahl, a 37-hectare inland lake with excellent water quality that provides a safe venue for small sailing boats. The club's core activities are dinghy sailing, regatta sport, youth work and sailing training. Classes sailed on the lake include Schwertzugvogel, Korsar, 420er, Laser, Europe, Optimist and RS Venture; the club has a clubhouse with moorings for about 40 boats at Birkenanger. SSC Kahl Korsar sailors have participated in ranking regattas for many decades, often on their home waters. The traditional Sandhasen regatta for Korsars was expanded to include the Seggerling class and is a fixed highlight of the season. Junior successes include vice-championships at the Korsar youth euros in Berlin and Davos. Since 2024 the club championship has been established as a multi-event competition throughout the season with opening sailing, several races and closing sailing scored by yardstick. Ranking regattas and internal races are held annually. Alongside regatta activity, SSC Kahl maintains strong youth work with Opti training week, weekend training and Friday training under experienced coaches. Sailing training includes powerboat licence courses for sea and inland waters on Lake Kahl, partly in cooperation with Segelcenter Frankfurt. The club also brings members together through regular offshore trips to areas such as Mallorca, Sardinia, Greece, the Dodecanese, Menorca and Corfu, and through participation in the Markol Cup on the IJsselmeer. Today the club has more than 190 members, including many children and young people, combining traditional dinghy sport on the home lake with cruising on open water.
