Segelsportclub Arlaching e.V.
Segelsportclub Arlaching e.V. (SSCA) is an active sailing club on the northern shore of Lake Chiemsee in Arlaching, located on the Kupferschmiede campsite. The club grounds with the sailors' tavern (Seglerstüberl), beer garden, barn and club motorboat form the social hub for members who sail dinghies, catamarans and various boat classes on the lake. The club hosts the annual Yardstick regatta Kupferschmiedkessel, takes an active part in the Chiemsee Championship and in the Jollen & Cat Cup organised by SRV Seebruck. The programme includes season opening and closing sails, knot courses, youth sailing courses, joint trips on Lake Chiemsee and on the Alz river, and convivial evenings at the Stüberl. The club is regarded as one of the smallest and most sociable clubs on Lake Chiemsee and combines competitive sailing with camping, community and long-standing tradition.
History
Segelsportclub Arlaching e.V. is based on the northern shore of Lake Chiemsee in Arlaching on the Kupferschmiede campsite and combines sailing with campsite life. Walter Grimminger was an honorary founding member who experienced and shaped the club's entire history; in the 1970s he sailed catamarans, moved to an Aquila and later owned a small Chiemsee yacht, remaining active on sea sailing trips until well over 80 and serving as a pillar of the club in its first 20 years. Hans Schafbauer was first chairman for many years. Alfred Schubert made the Chiemsee campsite his second home from the 1980s, sailing first on dinghies and later on various catamarans; he stepped in as second chairman when needed and led the club for six years. Roland Schöniger was a valued member from 1990 and lived his passion for sailing, camping and the club with great dedication. In January 2014 a revised website went online to simplify news, event registration and member communication. The club organises the annual Yardstick regatta Kupferschmiedkessel open to all classes permitted on Lake Chiemsee and is active in the Chiemsee Championship and the Jollen & Cat Cup of Seebrucker Regatta-Verein. The club championship is held over several regattas each season, including Hafen Trophy, Kupferschmiedkessel and Three-Bay Tour. Social events such as season opening and closing, sailors' festival, winter sailors' gathering, knot courses, tombola for club funds and shared evenings at the Seglerstüberl shape club life alongside sport. The club has a motorboat for rescue and regatta support, a barn, beer garden and Stodl used for club activities.
