Founded on 17 March 1985, SSC Mastholte celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025 and remains an active meeting place for everyone who enjoys being on the water.
History
Surf- und Segel-Club Mastholte e.V. was founded on 17 March 1985 and is based in Rietberg; it is registered at the Rheda-Wiedenbrück local court under number VR 340. The club's purpose is to foster windsurfing and sailing; to that end it secures contractual use of suitable water on Lake Mastholte, a leased quarry lake. Over the decades a club site developed on the southern shore with a clubhouse, surf containers, rigging lawn, jetty and two beach volleyball courts. Beach volleyball became a sport in its own right; internal tournaments began in 2009, and several well-attended tournaments are now held each year. Traditionally the club organises a trip over Ascension Day to the Netherlands, for example in 2025 with 55 participants to Bad Hoophuizen on the Veluwemeer. On 6 September 2025 SSC celebrated its 40th anniversary with around 130 guests; chairman Rainer Krause welcomed four founding members as guests of honour: Norbert Bartels, Siegfried Kleinhans, Norbert Schlephorst and Toni Bergkemper. Today the club has about 600 members, is an official VDWS water sports and SUP station and offers windsurfing, sailing, stand-up paddling and wing foil.
