Segel Sällskapet Brunnsviken
Segel Sällskapet Brunnsviken (SSB) is a traditional Swedish sailing and boating club based at Brunnsviken in Stockholm. The clubhouse and motorboat harbour are at Brunnsviksvägen 8; the sailing boat harbour is in Ekhagen. Facilities include a clubhouse, piers and the club’s own island Getfoten near Vaxholm with sauna, showers, dance floor and guest berths. Club life covers shared launching and winter work, members’ meetings and the Onsdagscupen with weekly Wednesday racing. Founded in 1898 and with the club island since 1925, SSB combines more than 120 years of history with active club boating in the Stockholm archipelago.
History
Segel Sällskapet Brunnsviken (SSB) was founded in 1898 and thus looks back on more than 120 years of club history. In 1925 the club acquired the island Getfoten near Vaxholm, which has since served as an important meeting place with clubhouse, dance floor, sauna, showers, annex and sheltered piers. In 1973 SSB celebrated its 75th anniversary with a picture and text chronicle compiled by Bruno Bergqvist and many members; the veteran boat association later helped with digitisation. Thanks to Christer Johansson and Mona Halldeby, extensive historical images and accounts from the club archive are now available digitally, including a hundred-year history, Getfoten’s history, older motorboats, boatbuilding and lottery boats, the clubhouse and harbour area, and racing history. The clubhouse and motorboat harbour are on Brunnsviksvägen in Stockholm, the sailing boat harbour in Ekhagen. To this day the club emphasises its character as a members’ association with shared work duty for launching, winter work and maintenance of Getfoten and the harbours.
