Segelsällskapet Vikingarna
Segelsällskapet Vikingarna (SSV) is an active sailing club in Kalmar on Sweden’s east coast, based at the Stensö fishing harbour and the historic club island Klubbholmen in Västra Sjön. The club runs a clubhouse with moorings, sauna, a boat crane at the T-jetty, and the island Stora Hatten with jetties, barbecue area and club buildings. Offerings include SSF-certified sailing schools for children in Optimists and for youth and adults, sailing camps, courses, racing and a motorboat section. Traditional community events such as Midsummer celebrations and work parties have shaped club life for decades.
History
The club island Klubbholmen (Stora Hatten in Västra Sjön) has belonged to Segelsällskapet Vikingarna since 1935 and is regarded as the heart of the club. It features jetties, clubhouse, kitchen, barbecue area, sauna and toilets; recent years have seen extensive building work, including finishing a dance floor ahead of the traditional Midsummer festival. The clubhouse at Stensö fishing harbour was built in 2000 for club activities and can be hired for meetings by associations, private guests and companies. The venue seats up to 50 guests and offers a kitchen, WiFi and accessible facilities. The club runs sailing schools, youth camps, courses, racing and a motorboat section, cooperates with Kalmar municipality and the RS Kalmar sea rescue service, and adopted an environmental policy for the Stensö harbour area in 2016.
