Segel-Sport-Verein Fühlingen e. V.
Segel-Sport-Verein Fühlingen e. V. (SSVF) is a registered sailing and windsurfing club from Cologne and a member of the German Sailing Association. Its roots lie at Lake Fühlingen; for many years the sailing area has been the Veerse Meer in the Netherlands, where the club is active from March to September at RCN Camping Schotsman near Kamperland in Zeeland. The fleet includes a Dart 18, a 470, a 420, Lasers, Optimists and the FAN 22 “Viva Colonia” for youth work and day trips. The offer mainly targets young adults and families with children; youth work is to be expanded further. Windsurfing, shared bike tours and club activities at the campsite shape club life.
History
In January 1968 a group of enthusiastic sailors around Fritz Bougnard founded Segel-Sport-Verein Fühlingen e.V. Immediately after founding, the club unsuccessfully sought to use Lake Fühlingen and other nearby lakes as an international racing venue. Sailing activities were therefore moved to the Netherlands. In Arnemuiden on the Veersemeer in Zeeland the SSVF established its base; campsite “De Witte Raaf” became the starting point for many events. In the late 1970s windsurfing emerged and the SSVF was among the trendsetters in the Cologne area. Many boards were stored in the boathouse at Lake Fühlingen for youth training. Into the 1990s the SSVF and other clubs jointly ran large windsurfing regattas with over 70 participants at Lake Fühlingen; results counted towards German championships. One junior member was in the Olympic windsurfing squad from 1980 to 1988, a multiple German champion and world championship medallist. Members also succeeded nationally in the 470 and Laser classes. Since the early 1970s the club has supported members in obtaining boat licences; in record year 2006 more than 20 members gained licences. Younger members are introduced to sailing in Optimists. Today the sailing area is the Veerse Meer at RCN Camping Schotsman near Kamperland. The club still promotes youth and families in surfing and sailing; it currently no longer competes in major racing but organises joint activities, smaller races and match races.

Youth work is to be rebuilt and expanded; younger members are introduced to sailing with Optimists. The FAN 22 “Viva Colonia” is available for youth work.
