Segelsportverein „Einheit Plauen“ e.V.
Segelsportverein „Einheit Plauen“ e.V. (SSVEP) is an active sailing club on the Pöhl reservoir in Germany’s Vogtland region. The club grounds are at Campingplatz Gunzenberg in Möschwitz and include the Finnhütte hut, a boat jetty and lakeside berths. The sporting focus is the Flying Dutchman class; Finn-Dinghy, O-Jolle, 470 and Optimist are also present in the club. SSVEP regularly hosts Friday evening races and the open Saxon Flying Dutchman championship and fields crews at national and international FD events. With about 43 members and strong volunteer organisation, the club is known for hospitality towards visiting regatta sailors from across Germany.
History
The idea of a dedicated Flying Dutchman regatta arose in early July 1988 on the grass in front of the flagpole of today’s SSG Reichenbach around the former Vogtland Cup. After German reunification, in autumn 1990 the sailing club Pöhl was spun out of BSG Einheit Lengenfeld; on the first July weekend of 1991 the Open Saxon Championship of the FD class was held there for the first time. In late autumn 1995 Rolf Albert, his wife Petra and then six-year-old Felix moved across the lake to Segelsportverein Einheit Plauen at the initiative of Karlheinz Wolf (Maxe), taking the regatta with them. From early July 1996 the Saxon championship has been firmly linked with SSVEP and has been held at the lake every year since – for the 30th time at SSVEP in 2026 (the 35th edition of the regatta overall). The club then had about 15 members and today counts around 43. It is known for organising the championship with a free camping meadow, catering, scoring and a Saturday party, and for its FD crews’ participation in German and international championships. Club life also includes Friday races, a season-opening sail, work parties at the Finnhütte and jetty, and the winter meeting at the Finnhütte.
