History

Spiekerooger Segelclub e.V. (SSC) is based on the East Frisian island of Spiekeroog and organises water sports on the island and in the Wadden Sea. The club address is Friederikenweg 7, 26474 Spiekeroog; the association is registered at the Aurich local court under VR 130003. Over the years the club expanded its harbour infrastructure: pier facility, sanitary building, Havenhuus, boat house and boat hall shape club life. In October 2009 the club documented a severe storm that hit the island and its facilities. Club life also includes the new clubhouse construction and youth events such as the youth sailing weekend in 2010. A central tradition is the Spiekeroog Seestern memorial regatta, planned as the 63rd edition in 2020 and sailed annually at Whitsun in the waters between Langeoog, Spiekeroog and Neuharlingersiel. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the regatta was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 and returned in 2022. In 2024 the regatta had to be cancelled again because missing piles of the pier facility could not be replaced in time. In 2025 and 2026 the Seestern memorial regatta was held again, with registration at the clubhouse or Havenhuus, yardstick scoring and a regatta ball in the boat hall. The club is represented by 1st chairman Tim Neumüller.
