Segelkameradschaft Maintal e.V.
Segelkameradschaft Maintal e.V. (SKMW) is a non-profit sailing club with around 280 members, situated with its own mooring jetties directly on the River Main in Margetshöchheim near Würzburg. The roughly 3,000 m² club grounds include a clubhouse, slipway, boat crane up to 3 t, shore and buoy moorings, and a boat house inaugurated in 2016 with workshop, sail drying room and youth room. Priorities are training and education including the junior sailing certificate and pleasure craft licences, active youth work with club Optimists, and regatta and flotilla sailing. Traditional events such as the Bocksbeutelregatta, season opening, harbour festival and Margaretenfest have shaped club life since the late 1960s.
History
Segelkameradschaft Maintal e.V. dates back to the late 1960s; members of the later Crew Hans-Heinrich were already friends at that time. The club sails on the Main between Zell and the Erlabrunn lock and has developed a second cruising area via a permanent berth for a club keelboat on Lake Altmühlsee and use of the club Dehlya 22 on Lake Brombachsee. In 2016 the new boat house with workshop, sail drying room and youth room was inaugurated. Youth work grew strongly thereafter: the annual youth training week is regularly fully booked, with waiting lists into 2028. In 2024 and 2025 modern training dinghies were acquired through crowdfunding and support from VR-Bank Würzburg, including the second training dinghy christened Francis Drake. In 2025 the club received three donated Optimists from Crew Hans-Heinrich e.V.; at Optiliga Franken 2025 SKMW took second place among five clubs. The traditional Bocksbeutelregatta remains the season highlight in Margetshöchheim.
