Segelsportklub Uerdingen e.V.
Segelsportklub Uerdingen e.V. (SKBUe) was founded in 1972 in Krefeld and operates its sailing centre on Lake Elfrath. This volunteer-run club offers both recreational and competitive sailing with more than 40 club dinghies available free of charge to members and three club yachts for ambitious cruising. Sailors of all ages race and train in classes from Optimist and ILCA through 420er and 470er to Polyvalk, Zugvogel and Hobie Cat. Youth development, regatta training, a sailing school covering all sailing licences and a strong inclusive programme with the SV14 shape the club's diverse offering. The centrally located club grounds with pontoons, slipway and crane host regular training, dinghy and cruising evenings and six major regattas each year with national and international participation.
History
Segelsportklub Uerdingen e.V. (SKBUe) was founded in 1972 in Krefeld and made Lake Elfrath its home, where the centrally located club grounds overlooking the lake remain the heart of club life. Over the following decades the SKBUe grew into a large community of sailing and surfing enthusiasts with a volunteer ethos that keeps the sport affordable. The club was a former regional performance centre of the North Rhine-Westphalia Sailing Association and hosts focused training and coaching events. Cruising gained early importance; the club owns three yachts – Oeding (X-46), Op Joeck (Bavaria 36) and Fata Morgana (Sprinta 70) – and has run youth cruising weeks awarded annually by the German Sailing Association since 2014. The shanty choir founded in 1984 became a musical flagship of the club regionally and nationwide. In regatta sailing SKBUe athletes have won more than 100 championship titles; surfer Moana Delle finished fifth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The club successfully integrated disabled sailing, hosted international and state championships and added an SV14 dinghy in 2022 for inclusive sailing. Six major regattas with national and international fields are held on the home waters each year. Beyond classic sailing the SKBUe promotes surfing, stand-up paddling, kitesurfing and wing foiling. A biotope next to the club grounds reflects the club's environmental commitment. Club officials also serve in wider bodies such as chairing the sailing section of the Krefeld sports federation and membership of the DSV sailing council.
