Stowarzyszenie Klub Żeglarski „HORYZONT”
Stowarzyszenie Klub Żeglarski HORYZONT is a sailing club with its own marina on Jezioro Pilchowickie below Pilchowice-Zapora railway station, near Jelenia Góra and the Giant Mountains. At the pier the club runs a public boat hire with dinghies, kayaks, pedal boats and rowing boats, plus terraces and barbecue areas overlooking the historic Pilchowice dam. The programme includes an Optimist youth sailing school, yacht-sailor licence courses and powerboat courses, as well as chartering two Sasanka yachts in the Masurian Lakes. Founded in 2008 from a former works sailing club, the association has over fifty members and combines training, regattas, shanty events and cruising.
History
Stowarzyszenie Klub Żeglarski HORYZONT was founded in 2008 on the basis of the former works sailing club at SIMET S.A.; many current members had been active there since 1980. The trigger was the dissolution of the old club and privatisation of the previous WOPR marina on Jezioro Pilchowickie. The new association found its site on the steep shore below Pilchowice-Zapora station and built a movable pier plus earth and timber terraces with tables, benches and a barbecue. Two wooden huts serve as bosun's store and meeting place. The fleet grew from one rowing boat and one buoy in 2008 to Venus, Foka and Omega dinghies, six Optimists, kayaks, pedal boats, an Eco-boat, a passenger boat and SUP boards, plus two Sasanka SN 660 yachts in Ruciane-Nida in Masuria. The club runs sail and powerboat training, an Optimist youth school, regattas, festivals and sea voyages and has over fifty members.
