Sigtuna Båtklubb
Sigtuna Båtklubb (SiBK) is a non-profit voluntary association on Lake Mälaren in Sigtuna and has promoted active boating and sailing life as well as camaraderie among members since 1948. The club has a well-sheltered harbour with a fixed pier and breakwater, about 250 berths, two floating jetties around 100 metres long, and a historic clubhouse on Hamngatan. In Flottvik there is a fenced winter storage yard for more than 160 boats with a sublift, mast crane and workshop. The youth section Jolleseglarna with over 100 members offers Optimist and Laser training, summer camps and sailing courses for beginners and more experienced sailors. Together with other clubs, SiBK runs the club island Landholmen with jetties, sauna and bathing area.
History
Sigtuna Båtklubb (SiBK) was founded in 1948 and today has around 1,000 members. The historic clubhouse by the harbour originally served as a ticket office and waiting hall for the steamboat connections to Stockholm and Uppsala; today it is the natural meeting point where the harbour master and the shared evening and night watch are based. The harbour in Sigtuna is leased from the municipality and is sheltered from almost all wind directions behind a concrete pier built in 1971; there are floating jetties with about 250 berths in total and around 30 places along the waterfront promenade. A light on the pier head aids night entry, and the harbour is illuminated at night. In Flottvik the club runs a large fenced winter storage area for more than 160 boats; launching and haul-out are done with a sublift of up to 10 tonnes. There are also a mast crane, mast storage, clubhouse, workshop and garages for yard vehicles. Together with Märsta and Hässelby Strand boat clubs, SiBK leases the island Landholmen south of Stäket in southwestern Görväln; a formerly overgrown island has become a facility with jetties, paths, sauna, toilet, bathing place and sail drying. During Sigtuna Möte on the last weekend of August, veteran boats from the Motor Yacht Society are invited. The youth section Jolleseglarna has its own facility with a clubhouse at Aludden and offers courses for beginners and more advanced sailors every June. Club work is organised in sections; the annual meeting is in February, with further member meetings in the other quarters.
