Südniedersächsische Hochseesegler e.V.

The Südniedersächsische Hochseesegler e.V. (SHS) is an offshore sailing club based in Göttingen and Rosdorf, in the heart of Germany and far from the coast. Its focus is nautical training as well as family, flotilla and training trips on the Baltic Sea, North Sea, English Channel and Mediterranean. The club maintains two club yachts – the Bavaria 41 Cruiser “Bine Gaßmann” in Heiligenhafen and the Bavaria C42 “Bine Due” on Elba – and deliberately has no clubhouse. Beginners, crew members and aspiring skippers find trial trips, skipper training and official recreational craft licence courses from SBF See via SKS to SSS and SHSS. Young sailors are supported with special conditions; in 2024 the club celebrated its 25th anniversary.

History

Südniedersächsische Hochseesegler e.V. (SHS e.V.) grew out of a passion for offshore sailing in the Göttingen area, far from any coastline. In 2024 the club celebrated its 25th anniversary. More than 250 offshore sailors have joined SHS and have been active in offshore sailing for many years. The club focuses on nautical training and organises family, flotilla and training trips on the Baltic Sea, North Sea, English Channel and Mediterranean. Together the members realised the dream of two club yachts: the Bavaria 41 Cruiser “Bine Gaßmann” (built 2015) based in Heiligenhafen on the Baltic Sea and the Bavaria C42 “Bine Due” (built 2022) in Portoferraio on the Tuscan island of Elba. There is deliberately no clubhouse. In the winter half-year, courses for official recreational craft licences take place; in spring and autumn members train on chartered yachts on the Baltic Sea during manoeuvre and heavy-weather trips. Photo albums document flotillas to the English Channel and Saronic Gulf (2024), Scotland/Isle of Mull (2023), skipper training and SKS trips to Elba. For the inland recreational craft licence there is a cooperation with Göttinger Segelklub (GSC).
