Segelgemeinschaft Ammersee e.V.
Segelgemeinschaft Ammersee e.V. is a traditional sailing club on the southern west shore of Lake Ammersee near St. Alban in Dießen. The club grounds with clubhouse, land storage on the meadow by the lake, buoy moorings and berths at the jetty in front of the lakeside restaurant provide good conditions for recreational sailing and youth training. On the water, Optimist, ILCA 7, 420 and 470 dinghies are the main classes; training sessions, youth weeks and club regattas shape the programme. Since its founding in 1956 and the later merger with Segelclub Weiß-Blau, the SGA has become an active hub of the Ammersee sailing community with around 174 members.
History
Segelgemeinschaft Ammersee e.V. was founded in 1956 as Segelgemeinschaft Augsburg at the Autobahnsee. In 1957 the SGA held its first race. In 1962 it joined the Bavarian Sailing Association (BLSV) and in 1963 the German Sailing Association (DSV). In 1969 the club first settled at Lake Ammersee in the cellar of today's lakeside restaurant; in 1974 it moved entirely to the Ammersee. In 1975 the first motorboat was purchased. In 1979 the club first hosted the 420 regatta "Augsburger Teller". In 1981 the present clubhouse on the Ammersee was inaugurated. In 1982 and again in 1990 the SGA hosted the 420 German Open (IDM). In 2003 further investments were made in youth boats. In 2006 and 2016 the club celebrated its 50th and 60th anniversaries. In 2018 the clubhouse lounge was redesigned with a projector and large screen for training. In 2022 the SGA merged with Segelclub Weiß-Blau (SWB); in 2023 it was renamed Segelgemeinschaft Ammersee. Today the club has around 174 members and promotes recreational sailing and youth training on the southern west shore of Lake Ammersee.
Information
Youth section
As of 2025 the SGA has about 20 youth members from age 6. Several Optimists are available for the youngest; older juniors sail four Lasers, three 420s and one 470. Coaches with C-level recreational sailing qualification support training; highlights include Optimist and Laser match racing and two youth weeks at Whitsun and the start of the summer holidays with camping on the club grounds.
