St. Gallischer Yachtclub Rorschach

The St. Gallischer Yachtclub Rorschach (SGYC) is a family-friendly yacht club on Lake Constance with its home harbour and clubhouse at the cooperative harbour of Rorschach. Members are primarily cruising sailors, complemented by successful racing sailors, and the club owns its harbour and winter storage through cooperatives. International regattas such as Opti PM and the Int. SM Dragon in 2014 and 2022 have been hosted here; the Dragon class is especially present in the club. Professional youth work is delegated to SCR Rietli, while SGYC develops its own youth concepts for team sailing. Interests are represented in BSBV, Swiss Sailing and Swiss Sailing Bodensee; events combine racing with social life in the clubhouse.

History

The Yacht-Club Staad (Y.C.St.), predecessor of today's St. Gallischer Yachtclub Rorschach (SGYC), was founded on 15 August 1942 from the Schweizerischer Bodensee Yachtclub. The history of Yacht-Club Staad and SGYC is documented in a pictorial chronicle by Josef Mazzel from 2017. The club today owns its harbour and winter storage in cooperative form; home harbour is the Genossenschaftshafen Rorschach with clubhouse. SGYC has successfully hosted international regattas, including Opti PM and the international Swiss Dragon championships in 2014 and 2022. In Rorschach, events included the Swiss Dragon class championship and the Alpencup 2022 of the Dragon class. Club teams such as SUI 297 TACHISTON with Norbert Stadler achieved results in national and international Dragon competitions. The club represents members' interests in BSBV as well as Swiss Sailing and Swiss Sailing Bodensee and maintains an active club life with regattas, social events and yearbooks.
