Schwentine-Fahrtensegler e.V. Kiel
Schwentine-Fahrtensegler e.V. Kiel (SFS Kiel) is a traditional cruising sailing club at the mouth of the Schwentine in Kiel’s Dietrichsdorf district. The club uses Sporthafen Dietrichsdorf with pontoons, showers, fresh water and power at the berths, plus its own clubhouse at Schwentinestraße 1. There members meet for social evenings, talks, courses and family celebrations; a modern kitchen and projector complete the facilities. Besides season opening and closing sails and squadron cruises, the joint Schwentine Ice Bottom regatta in Optimists shapes the club year. Members can apply for berths in Dietrichsdorf and limited places in Schilksee via the club; guests may use free berths after checking with Sporthafen Kiel GmbH.
History
Schwentine-Fahrtensegler e.V. Kiel was founded on 2 October 1950. Founders included Karl Hahn as first chairman as well as Erich Ahrens, Kurt and Hermann Barkowski, Fritz Borchers, Dr. Rudolf Fleck, Heinz Greggers and other sailors. The motto is “Rüm Hart-Klar Kimming”. Boats initially lay on the Schwentine, at the Wellingdorf steamer pier and with the angling club; winter storage included the net-drying yard in Wellingdorf and the fish market. The first club venue was Lokal Röhlk. In 1953 the AGM decided on a 24-hour cruise; children’s events ran until 1955. In 1960 Ludwig Feldmann sen. became 1st chairman. From 1963 the tackmasters sought berths in Schilksee; in 1966 SFS received four summer berths there. In 1970 members clearly voted to remain in the German Sailing Federation. In 1972 they applied for registered association status; on 2 July 1973 SFS was entered as Schwentine-Fahrtensegler e.V. Kiel. 1975 brought membership of the state sports federation and the 25th anniversary at Comet-Heim. Late 1970s talks about Schwentine berths and temporary HDW site plans failed in 1981. In 1983 a contract with the City of Kiel for Sporthafen Dietrichsdorf was signed. After Heinrich Schau’s resignation, Klaus-Peter Boock was elected 1st chairman in 1988. Planning for the club’s own house began in 1989; it was inaugurated on 20 April 1990, ending 40 years without a dedicated clubhouse. In 1995 the club helped found Sporthafen Kiel GmbH and Boock joined the advisory board. In 2000 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Kiel Maritime Museum and with a gala ball. On 11 December 2001 SFS Kiel went online. In 2009 the Brückenstraße winter yard lease was not renewed. In 2011 Ursula Sturm became the first woman on the board as 2nd chair. In 2012 the AGM raised fees and major pontoon renovation began in Dietrichsdorf. By 2013 Klaus-Peter Boock had been 1st chairman for 25 years. Today season sails, squadron cruises and the traditional Optimist Ice Bottom regatta still define club life on the Schwentine.
