History

Seglervereinigung Breitbrunn e.V. on Lake Ammersee has been a fixture of the southern German sailing scene for many years. The centrepiece of club life is the Ammercat, long regarded as one of the finest regattas in southern Germany, regularly attracting sailors from the region and beyond. The club is particularly active in the A-Cat class: as early as 2015, 20 A-Cat sailors started at the Wiesn Regatta in Breitbrunn, and in 2016 the Ammercat brought together 20 participants from three nations – Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The Ammercat continued in subsequent years, including 2017 and 2018; after the coronavirus break it resumed in 2022 with a smaller fleet of 11 sailors and was held successfully again in 2025 with 15 entries and six scored races. Alongside racing, the club maintains a lively community in the clubhouse, where Gisela Ramisch has provided catering and hospitality for more than thirty years. Klaus Brütting, first chairman and race officer, is one of the driving forces behind the club's regattas. Since 2017 the club has also offered active youth development: 29 children took part in the children's and youth sailing week, coached by dedicated instructors such as Sepp Pirsch and Toni Böhm. The SvBb shop went online in 2017, and in 2022 a summer festival was held at the club again after a two-year break. Since 2022 the club webcam has also been linked on Windy.com, allowing the day's progress on Lake Ammersee to be viewed via time-lapse video. In addition to the Ammercat, the club hosts the East Coast Cup, club festivals, haul-out and winter storage events, youth training and organises its regattas via Manage2Sail.
