History

As early as 1946, one year after the end of World War II, the first regatta of the sports community "Fichte" took place on the Elsterstausee on 1 October. In the same year, the company sports community Aufbau Süd-West, sailing section (BSG ASW), was formed at the Elsterstausee as successor to the "Fichte" sports community. In 1950, the harbour at the Elsterstausee was expanded and the club house was built. In 1951, BSG Polygraph, sailing section, was formed and integrated as a guest BSG with BSG ASW. The first EXPOVITA regatta was held at the Elsterstausee in 1974. Due to the temporary draining of the Elsterstausee, part of the BSG moved to the eastern shore of Kulkwitzer See in 1977; in 1979 they moved to the western shore and began building the harbour, club house and youth facilities. Sailing at the reservoir resumed in 1983; BSG Stahl Süd-West was integrated as a guest BSG at Kulkwitzer See in 1988. On 1 July 1990, Seglerverein Leipzig Süd-West e.V. was founded through the merger of BSG ASW and BSG Polygraph; sailors from BSG Stahl Süd-West joined in 1992. On the 50th anniversary on 1 October 1996, the club received a jubilee certificate from the German Sailing Association. In 1999/2000, the harbour at Cospudener See was built jointly with Leipziger Seesportclub e.V. Today's Seglerverein Leipzig e.V. looks back on more than 60 years of history, is active at three sailing areas and has grown to over 200 members, including more than 60 children and young people in the Cospuden and Kulkwitz groups.
