Segelabteilung SV Refrath/Frankenforst 1926 e.V.

The sailing department of SV Refrath/Frankenforst 1926 e.V. in Bergisch Gladbach-Refrath has united around 70 active sailors since 2002. From mid-April to mid-October, regular Sunday dinghy sailing takes place on Lake Unterbach, complemented by multi-day events on the Maasplassen near Roermond, Lake Sorpe, Belterwiede and other sailing areas. The club does not maintain its own boats but charters flexibly as needed, keeping membership fees low. The programme ranges from dinghy and cat sailing through leisure and club cruises to regatta sailing, including the Markol Cup and Hessenregatta. Monthly sailors' get-togethers, talks on navigation and safety, and an open welcome for guests and interested newcomers shape club life.

History

The sailing department of Sportverein Refrath/Frankenforst 1926 e.V. was founded in 2002 and has since operated as a financially and organisationally independent department of SV Refrath without its own legal entity. In the early years the community grew steadily; in 2013 the department celebrated its 10th anniversary with a major anniversary cruise in the Gulf of Gökova near Bodrum, with 50 sailors taking part. In 2016 the club held its first internal club regatta on the IJsselmeer with six yachts and more than 30 participants. In September 2022 the 20th anniversary of the sailing department followed, reported by local media such as GL Kompakt and in-gl.de. Today the department has around 70 members and is affiliated with the German Sailing Association (DSV). Milestones include cruises in the North and Baltic Seas, Mediterranean and Caribbean, regular participation in the Markol Cup on the IJsselmeer and the Channel crossing in 2009. Founding member Norbert Graf shaped development as long-serving department chairman until 2023. The parent club SV Refrath/Frankenforst celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2026, with the sailing department actively involved.
