Segelgruppe der TU Braunschweig
The sailing group of TU Braunschweig is the university sailing community of Technische Universität Braunschweig, with inland training on the Südsee lake as well as training camps on Lake Plauer See and sailing trips on the Baltic Sea. Practical training takes place at the Südsee site (Schrotweg 113); boats are stored and maintained at the Nordcampus site (Bienroder Weg 85). The fleet comprises more than 15 boats, including Pirate, Ixylon and Laser dinghies that can also be borrowed for free sailing. The programme is aimed at beginners and advanced sailors and includes, among other things, the inland and coastal pleasure craft licences, the coastal yachtmaster certificate, the radio certificate and advanced training with spinnaker and trapeze. More than 60 new students join each year; around 150 active sailors shape club life with regular sailors' meetings.
History
As the university sailing community of Technische Universität Braunschweig, the Segelgruppe der TU Braunschweig organises sailing training and club life around Braunschweig's Südsee lake. Practical inland training takes place at the Südsee site on Schrotweg 113; in summer, meetings there also serve as sociable sailors' gatherings. At the Nordcampus site on Bienroder Weg 85 the group stores and maintains its fleet; in winter the monthly sailors' meetings are held there. The offer ranges from beginner courses for the inland pleasure craft licence on dinghies via free sailing with boat hire to motorboat training for the coastal pleasure craft licence on the Stichkanal canal. Advanced sailors can take the coastal yachtmaster exam on a Baltic Sea trip, train trim, spinnaker and trapeze at Lake Plauer See and obtain the SRC radio certificate. The group reports more than 15 boats in the fleet, over 60 new students each year and more than 150 active sailors. Legally the sailing group is represented by the current first Obmann; contact points cover chairpersons, training coordination, boat maintenance and training camps.
