Segelfreunde Rheinland e.V.
Segelfreunde Rheinland e.V. is a registered sailing club with its office in Sankt Augustin and roots in the Siegburg, Bonn and Cologne area. The club deliberately forgoes its own boat fleet and berths and organises sailing trips on chartered dinghies, yachts and flat-bottom vessels mainly on the Frisian waters of the Netherlands. The programme includes trial sailing in Roermond, season opening and closing events, a sailing week in Koudum/De Kuilart and comprehensive training for pleasure craft licences and radio certificates. Monthly sailors’ evenings at the club’s restaurant venue in Siegburg and events such as fish grilling, boßeln and a summer festival shape club life. Since its founding in 2004, the club has grown into an informal community for beginners and experienced sailors alike.
History
Segelfreunde Rheinland e.V. was founded in 2004; co-founder Stefan Fenker served as first chair until early 2017 and has been honorary president since 2017. The club has been registered at the Siegburg local court under VR2582 since 13 January 2005. After more or less unsuccessful attempts with club-owned boats on waters around Siegburg that were poorly suited to sailing, the club finally decided to forgo its own fleet and berths. Instead it organises sailing on chartered boats and chooses cruising grounds freely – with a focus on the Frisian lakes in the Netherlands. Regular formats such as season opening and closing at RUFUS an het water, the sailing week in Koudum/De Kuilart alongside pleasure-craft training, and trial sailing plus days for newcomers in Roermond shaped the programme. Off the water, activities such as fish grilling, boßeln, a photo competition with a members’ calendar and a summer festival emerged. The office is in Sankt Augustin; a move to Königswinter is planned from 1 October 2026. Today the Segelfreunde are a community of sailing enthusiasts from the Rhein-Sieg district, Bonn, Cologne and surroundings, with training ranging from inland and coastal licences to coastal yacht certificates and radio and pyrotechnic qualifications.
