Segelcrew Hartberg

Segelcrew Hartberg is a non-profit sailing club based in Hartberg in Styria with club grounds on Lake Stubenberg. Since 2002 members sail on the Croatian Adriatic and Austrian inland waters in inland, offshore and training sections. The lakeside site offers a clubhouse, sail store, renewed pier, slipway and club boats including Optimists and Laser Pico dinghies. The programme covers youth and adult training, inland A-licence courses, FB2/FB3 tuition and the traditional Dalmatian Sail & Fun Cup in Biograd. The club has around 140 members and has maintained a close friendship with Yacht Club Biograd since its early years.

History

Segelcrew Hartberg was founded in 2002 in Hartberg by 13 founding members under president Gerald Schützenhöfer. Early fundraising included a dumpling shoot in Oberlungitz and a converted trailer bar sponsored by Hirter brewery. In 2004 the Oststeirer Cup—today the Dalmatian Sail & Fun Cup—began as an entry-level regatta for less experienced skippers with a 20-knot start-phase wind limit, supported by friendship with Yacht Club Biograd. In 2005 the first club regatta was held in Mörbisch and Croatian coastal licence courses with practice trips started. In 2006 Paul Grebitschitscher died during Oststeirer Cup preparations in Iz Veli; a football tournament and Easter fires were also held that year. In 2007 the club took 2nd and 3rd places in the Austrian Race Trophy and secured fenced club grounds at Lake Stubenberg with a first hut and berths. Since then spring sail, club regatta, autumn sail and A-licence courses shape the inland season. 2011 saw dinghy touring on Lake Neusiedl. In 2020 a new clubhouse was built as meeting place, sail store and lounge; the pier was renewed and a new slipway added in 2022. New statutes enabled sections; membership grew from 13 to over 100 and now stands at about 140 under chairman Martin Höfler.
