Segelclub Zeuthen e.V.
Segelclub Zeuthen e.V. is located on Lake Zeuthen, one of the finest sailing areas around Berlin, and has been a home harbour for youth, cruising and racing sailors since 1951. The club offers jetties, a boat house, a slipway with portal cranes, a large hall for boat maintenance and club boats of the Ixylon class. Cadet youth training and adult training, active regatta participation and cruising define the programme; the Waffle Regatta and in-house races are part of the tradition. Only 200 metres from the S-Bahn station, the club offers a family atmosphere, overnight stays for dinghy sailors and paddlers, and free berths for active sailors.
History
For well over 100 years the grounds at Eichenallee 13 in Zeuthen have been a sailing base. From 1884 to 1945 the site housed the Zeuthener Segelverein (ZSV), which still exists at Berlin's Wannsee today. After the Second World War, sailors returned to Eichenallee only in 1951; the club was then known as Motor Oberschöneweide. Some 30 to 40 members sailed, paddled and fished in the early years, with a fleet of self-built boats. From the late 1960s, youth sailing was strongly promoted in Optimist, Cadet and 420 classes. As TSG Oberschöneweide, Sailing Section, the club was for many years a training centre for the Berlin sailing area. Membership grew to about 120; up to 60 boats had their home harbour there. In 1990 SCZ Segelclub Zeuthen e.V. was founded; a long-term lease with the municipality of Zeuthen secures the club's future. Jetties, boat house, technical facilities and boats were modernised and expanded. The Waffle Regatta grew out of GDR racing tradition and was first run in the 1990s as a Cadet-Teeny event; today it is a fixture in the Cadet ranking calendar and often doubles as the Berlin Youth Championship. In 2022 the club celebrated its 70th anniversary with a foundation and summer festival. Youth training on Cadets, active racing, cruising and community engagement still shape club life.
