Segel-Club Ville e.V.

Segel-Club Ville e.V. (SCV) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Liblar in Erftstadt, about 20 kilometres southwest of Cologne in the Kottenforst-Ville nature park. With around 400 members it ranks among the top 15 sailing clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia and focuses on competitive dinghy sailing on the roughly 54-hectare venue. The club offers a clubhouse with catering, jetties, a slipway and marked parking as well as its own youth section and sailing school. Regular regattas since 1970, weekend youth training, cruising on the IJsselmeer, Baltic and Mediterranean, and participation in the German Sailing Bundesliga have shaped club life since its founding in September 1963.

History

Segel-Club Ville was founded in September 1963 and takes its name from the Ville (Vorgebirge) landscape on the left bank of the Rhine between Bonn and Cologne, home to Lake Liblar. The lake was created by lignite mining and subsequent renaturation and covers about 54 hectares. Since 1970 the club has mostly run open association regattas and has also hosted German championships. The SCV archive was created for the 50th anniversary and documents history, social life and cruising. Since 1993 the cruising group has organised summer trips as flotillas or chain cruises, preferably on the Baltic and Mediterranean; trips to Sweden, Norway and the Greek Cyclades have been awarded. In 2014 the SCV joined the German Sailing Bundesliga; after a narrow qualification and relegation followed mixed years with relegation and promotion. From 2019/2020 more stable teams formed and the club bought its own J/70 for regular league training. Today, with around 400 members, the SCV ranks among NRW's top 15 sailing clubs, combining dinghy racing, youth development, sailing school and cruising at Lake Liblar.
