1. Innviertler Segelclub Suben

The 1. Innviertler Segelclub Suben (1. ISC) is a non-profit sailing club on the River Inn in Suben, Upper Austria, with a harbour in the middle of the village in the Suben Bay. The sailing area lies in a European nature reserve on the dammed Inn and offers sailing without commercial shipping under strict environmental rules. The club has a pier with 18 berths including power supply, a clubhouse, shore storage and car parking, and maintains club boats including Optimists and a Laser. With around 60 members, the club promotes cruising and racing, training and youth sailing, and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024 after being founded in 1984.

History

After completion of the St. Florian power plant, the Inn near Suben was dammed in 1960/61. A reservoir about 14 kilometres long between St. Florian and Obernberg was created, averaging around 500 metres in width. The new area was soon used for watersports; the first mooring fields appeared in the sheltered Suben Bay. In May 1984, Richard Armstark, Wolfgang Öttl and Thomas Sageder met in the bay and conceived the idea of founding a sailing club. In August 1984 the 1. Innviertler Segelclub was established. In 1991 the club applied to join the Austrian Sailing Federation and was registered in December 1991 as club number 82. Due to the federation's financial policy, the 2009 annual general meeting decided to leave the ÖSV. Since then the club has expanded its facilities: a pier with 18 powered berths, clubhouse, shore storage and parking. In 2024 the 1. ISC celebrated its 40th anniversary with a harbour festival. Today the club has around 60 members with 11 cabin boats and 14 dinghies, and maintains among other craft two Aquilas, a Laser, four Optimists and a rescue boat.
