Segel-Club Knapsack e.V.
Segel-Club Knapsack (SCK) is a sailing club with strong ties to Chemiepark Knapsack on Lake Rur. Founded in 1967, it offers sailing for members of all ages – from spontaneous afternoon sails to weekend stays, regattas and multi-week cruising tours.
History
Segel-Club Knapsack e.V. (SCK) was founded on 3 March 1967 by a group of sailing enthusiasts who were employees of the former Knapsack-Grießheim AG and grew into a club closely linked to Chemiepark Knapsack. Many members are still employees and relatives of the chemical park; however, anyone who enjoys sailing is welcome to join. The club grounds are sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds directly on Lake Rur on the eastern side of the Eschauel peninsula on a steep shore. Below the club building is the marina with two individual piers, each with 16 berths. Since 2006 the site has had an electricity connection. The club owns four club sailboats available to members for a small fee, plus three Optimists for youth sailing. Member activities range from spontaneous weekday sailing afternoons and weekend stays on Lake Rur to regatta participation and multi-week cruising tours. For many years SCK has run regular sailing courses culminating in the official sport boat licence examination.
