Sportverein Forelle Steyr Segeln

Sportverein Forelle Steyr Segeln is an independent sailing branch of Sportverein Forelle Steyr and sails from the club grounds on Rieplfeldstraße in Steyr, Upper Austria. The club has pier facilities, slipways, a clubhouse with a weather station and club boats for juniors. Core offerings include in-house regattas such as the Club Cup and autumn regatta, the annual children's and youth sailing course, and licensed training for the Austrian inland sailing certificate BFAB. Youth work is especially strong, with Optimist, Laser and Kolibri boats, Opti and Laser training sessions and activity days in the summer holidays. Since its founding in 1947 the sailing branch has been firmly rooted in Steyr club life and regularly organises season openings, closings and social events.

History

Sportverein Forelle Steyr Segeln was founded in 1947 within the parent club Sportverein Forelle Steyr as an independent sailing branch. Besides sailing, Forelle Steyr also includes camping, canoe, stock sport and tennis sections. Over the decades the sailing branch developed into an active club with grounds on Rieplfeldstraße in Steyr. Gallery milestones range from boat-box construction in 2003 and the ice marina in 2012 to many Aquila focus regattas and autumn regattas. In 2022 the southern piers and slipways were dredged and a corridor was cut through the sandbank on the north side for the rescue boat so operations remain possible at extremely low water. That same year the sporting director and deputy opened the season on site; the clubhouse weather station provided wind and temperature readings. The club's Korsar sailors also trained at the ÖKV Easter training on Lake Neusiedl. To this day in-house regattas, club parties, the annual children's and youth sailing course and licensed ÖSV BFAB training shape club life.
