Segelclub Delphin Telfs

History

Segelclub Delphin Telfs was founded on 20 May 1985. Founding members were Günter Müller, Luis Nössing, Leopold Fürst, Günter Köfler and Reinhard Werner. The club is based in Telfs, about 30 kilometres west of Innsbruck, and now has around 185 members. From the start the aim was to make sailing on inland waters and at sea accessible to everyone, without elitist pretensions and without a joining fee. Since 2005 the club has been a member of the Tyrolean Sailing Association (VTS) and the Austrian Sailing Federation. As a training centre recognised by ÖSV and MSVÖ, BFA inland, FB2 and FB3 courses are run regularly for members; theory takes place in the clubrooms at Griesgasse 7, practical training on Lake Achensee or at sea. On Lake Achensee the club maintains a site on Tiroler Wasserkraft grounds with buoys and ashore berths plus club boats (including Kielzugvogel, Sportina and Optimist). In spring 2022 the club site was extended and the Delphin Lounge built in over 300 hours of volunteer work. Racing teams regularly compete in the Blue Ribbon of Lake Achensee, club and long-distance races and score class wins. Club festivals, lectures, a crew-share board, launching and hauling out, and winter outings shape club life. At the 2025 general meeting Hanna Haselwanter succeeded Bernie Rossi as club president.
