Segel-Club Seekirchen am Wallersee (SCSW)
Segel-Club Seekirchen am Wallersee (SCSW) is a traditional sailing club on the western bay of Lake Wallersee in the Flachgau lake district in Seekirchen, Austria. The sailing area stretches about 5.5 km in length and up to 2 km in width; at around 6.1 km², Wallersee is the largest lake in Flachgau and especially popular in easterly winds. The spacious club grounds feature a fully equipped clubhouse, land storage berths and club boats especially for youth sailing. The programme combines racing, windsurfing and wingfoiling with youth training, recreational sailing and a family-friendly club life; club regattas, youth sailing weeks and Sailing Kids Day are held regularly. Since its founding in 1964, sporting ambition and teaching sailing have been at the centre; in 2024 the club celebrated its 60th anniversary.
History
It all began in 1964, at least from an official perspective; the lead-up to founding a local sailing club went back much further. The imprint records 2 December 1965 as the date of origin and ZVR number 616700733. Throughout the SCSW’s more than 60-year history, the focus has always been sporting incentive and teaching sailing to all water-sports enthusiasts. The club sees itself as a family-friendly, open sports and leisure community uniting racing, windsurfing, youth training and recreational sailing. Alongside racing, sociability is central to club life on Lake Wallersee. Club history is documented in anniversary publications for 25, 40 and 50 years; in 2024 the summer festival regatta marked the SCSW’s 60th anniversary. Today the grounds in Seekirchen offer a fully equipped clubhouse and land berths and are the base for numerous regattas and youth programmes on Wallersee.
