Segel Club Hannover e.V. (SC Han) is a traditional, family-oriented sailing club on the picturesque southern shore of Lake Steinhude in Steinhude. Founded in 1925, the club has around 36 active members and about 25 berths, offering a sporting and sociable setting for dinghy, cruiser and catamaran sailing. The club fleet includes a Schwertzugvogel, Optimists, Open Bics, a Laser Bahia and ILCA boats, available free of charge to members. Annual club races, season opening and closing sails, a youth sailing week, cruising and ice sailing shape the programme; the club is a member of WVStM and DSV.
History
Segel Club Hannover e.V. (SC Han) was founded in 1925 by five sailing enthusiasts from Hanover as the fifth sailing club on Lake Steinhude. The first site was in the Alter Winkel in Steinhude at a fisherman's place; the first pier was a few wooden planks, and boats were moored to buoys. Two years later the plot at today's Fischerweg 39 (then Gartenstraße) was leased and drained; a pier with berths and the first weekend huts followed. In 1928 the club joined the German Sailing Association. In 1929 the fleet comprised Weserjolle, 10er Einheitsjolle, 15er and 20er cruising classes and 20er, 22er and 30er racing classes. The club mess was built in 1935 largely by members from demolition materials of the Lütjen Deile. During the Second World War and the post-war years the weekend houses served as homes for bombed-out families. After sailing was permitted again membership grew; the first post-war boat was an H-dinghy, and a Z-boat followed in 1955. Over the decades classes such as Pirat, 420, 470, Hobie Cat, Tornado, Zugvogel, Laser, Flying Dutchman and O-Jolle were sailed. In 2016 the club hosted berths for the Flying Dutchman World Championship in Steinhude. In 2019 the fixed pier received non-slip GRP grating. In 2025 the club celebrated its centenary with a festival and a club book. Today about 20 boats lie at the pier, sailed by around 36 active members.

Activities
Joint season opening and closing sails as flotilla trips around Wilhelmstein, about six club races per season on yardstick, participation in national and international events, cruising, ice sailing with two DN iceboats, youth sailing week with theory and practice in August, training weekends and a summer party.
