Segelclub Blau-Weiß Cottbus e.V.
Segelclub Blau-Weiß Cottbus e.V. is a registered sailing club on the northern shore of the Spremberg reservoir in Neuhausen/Spree. The club grounds include a private harbour, boathouse and boat shed as well as the club restaurant Segler's Klön. Classes sailed include Ixylon, Optimist, Finn-Dinghy, ILCA and O-Jolle, alongside windsurfing and junior sailing. Children and young people train regularly, take part in regattas and attend training camps and sailing camps. The club hosts the Ixylon Cup and the Reservoir Cup and is a member of the Brandenburg Sailing Association. Since its founding in 1970, community life, youth development and active club sailing have shaped its profile.
History
In 1970 Segelclub Blau-Weiß Cottbus e.V. was founded from an existing water touring sports community. From the start Peter Altmann served as chairman. In 1984 the club restaurant Segler's Klön was inaugurated; afterwards the boat shed was completed. After German reunification the club kept its independence and remains a registered member of the Brandenburg Sailing Association. Peter Bronke and Manfred Tomaschewski were among the most active racing sailors and repeatedly took part in German and European championships; in the Finn class they still regularly compete at senior world championships. From the beginning attention focused on children and young people: training took place in the Optimist class and later on Delta3 windsurf boards; later juniors raced successfully in Laser Radial, and in 2008 Juliane Hinzmann became state champion in that class. In 1978 the first board sailors became active; Günter Kerkau and Bernd Sabrowski were among the first windsurfers on the Spremberg reservoir. In 1993/94 Gert Poppe and Reiner Hollick competed in the East German windsurfing Bundesliga. In the 1970s and 1980s the Energy Workers' Regatta was very popular, with up to 140 competitors on about 50 boats and 50 windsurf boards. In the 1990s extensive reconstruction work was carried out on Segler's Klön and the boathouse, and new racing material was acquired for youth sailing. Until 2007 Peter Altmann led the club for 35 years as chairman and received the gold medal of honour of the Brandenburg State Sports Federation. From 2007 to 2013 Uwe Kirstein led the club; from January 2014 Karl-Heinz Rettschlag held the chair. Today about 70 sailors and windsurfers plus sailing family members are organised in the club; during the season the harbour and the water are busy with boat and training activity.
