Segelclub Brodenbach – Mosel (SCBM) is a traditional sailing club at the harbour of Brodenbach on the Moselle and was founded on 27 March 1965. The club offers water berths, buoy moorings and land berths for dinghies on the grounds in Brodenbach and at the Löf bridge, and also uses a clubhouse for meetings and social events. For juniors and members, boat classes such as Optimist, Europe and 420 have been central; besides regattas and the popular Wine Harvest Regatta, the season opening and closing sails and summer festivals shape the club year. The long history with club grounds in Brodenbach and Alken and the move of the fleet into Brodenbach harbour make SCBM a firm anchor of sailing on the Moselle.
History
Segelclub Brodenbach – Mosel (SCBM) was founded on 27 March 1965. The first members set out to bring sailing, made possible by the Moselle impoundment, to people from near and far. As early as 7/8 August 1965 the first race for 420 and Moth was held; two 420s and one Moth in the SCBM attracted more and more sailors and membership grew. In 1967 the first club grounds were leased and a dinghy berth was built at Brodenbach harbour. In the following years club grounds were added in Alken at the Moselle bridge, with a slipway and race mast, later a large equipment shed and a barbecue area. Two regattas were held each year and were popular with visiting sailors. The Wine Harvest Regatta at the end of September remains a favourite race every year. In 1979 a water berth in Löf for twelve sailing yachts was completed. By then SCBM had members from the wider area who spent weekends with their yachts on the Moselle. Youth work began early: a club fleet of Optimists, Europe and 420 dinghies was created for juniors and members. SCBM sailors attended away regattas and there were youth camps at Lake Laach; obtaining an A-certificate was possible, with courses and examinations. Club life was lively with boat christenings, summer festivals, carnival events, winter Stammtisch evenings and sociable club nights. In 1985 the water berth in Löf was given up and the SCBM fleet moved to Brodenbach harbour, where the club had 24 berths for sailing yachts and a land berth for eight dinghies. At the 2025 annual general meeting Hans Schröder was appointed the first honorary chairman.
