Segelclub Marl e.V.
Segelclub Marl e. V. (SCM) is a family-oriented sailing club and a member of the German Sailing Association. Its home waters are Lake Haltern (Halterner Stausee), about three hectares with shifting winds. After instruction, members may use club-owned boats without owning one, including Optimists, Pirate, Schwertzugvogel, Varianta and Aira 22; winter storage is in a boat hall in Dorsten. The club offers trial sailing, family sailing trips in Friesland, youth events and nearly annual courses for inland and coastal pleasure craft licences as well as SKS. Founded in 1974 by employees of the Auguste Victoria colliery in Marl, shared boat work and sociable club life shape the association.
History
Segelclub Marl e. V. was founded on 28 February 1974 by sailing enthusiasts among employees of the Auguste Victoria colliery in Marl. At the start there was neither a boat nor a berth, and Marl had no sailing area of its own, so attention turned early to Lake Haltern. Shortly after founding, the fleet grew to an inflatable boat and two Koralle dinghies. In 1975 the first club boat was bought, a used wooden Zugvogel named Marl I. Boats were initially launched via the slipway at Hotel Seestern. In 1977 the club obtained five berths on the water. Since then the fleet has expanded considerably. A large boat hall provides winter storage where heavier boats are prepared with a lifting device. In summer club boats lie at the reservoir as needed; in winter they are stored in a hall in Dorsten. In 2025 the fleet was extended with an Aira 22. The club emphasises family sailing, a trial membership year and licence training including SBF inland, SBF coastal and SKS.
