Segelverein Hanau e.V.

Segelverein Hanau e.V. is a small family sailing club on the river Main between the Mühlheim lock and Hanau Amphitheatre, near river kilometre 54. The club grounds comprise a leased allotment garden with hut, barbecue area, toilet and material container, plus a slipway, fixed pier and floating pontoon. Members may use club dinghies free of charge, including Calypso, Sönnsche and the Jeton dinghy Minou, and there is space for private dinghies. Regular sailing Sundays, try-out sailing at open days, internal club regattas, capsize training and joint sailing trips shape the programme. For decades the club has maintained an active community life with a New Year walk, annual general meeting and excursions to neighbouring sailing areas.

History

Segelverein Hanau e.V. celebrated its 40th anniversary in August 2019, pointing to a founding around 1979. For many years Kai Sennewald shaped the club as 1st chairman; he took the role about twenty years earlier in a critical phase when dissolution threatened because no new board could be formed. Under his leadership the club gained new members and strengthened its finances. At the members' meeting on 24 March 2023 Kai Sennewald did not stand for re-election; Klaus Müller was elected as his successor and new 1st chairman. In March 2018 the club replaced its outdated website with the current blog and received new sails for its two club dinghies. The sailing area is on the Main with a pier at coordinates 50°07'33.1″N 8°52'51.1″E, above the Mühlheim lock. Over the years the grounds were modernised: renewing and launching the floating pontoon, building a new timber hut in 2024 after demolishing the dilapidated predecessor, and in 2026 foundation works for another new hut after demolishing the old toilet shed. The fleet was extended with the Jeton dinghy Minou. New Year walks, sailing Sundays, open days with try-out sailing and club regattas, capsize training and sailing trips to Altmühlsee, Inheidener See, Steinhuder Meer and Krombachtalsperre are traditional. The club is registered in the Hanau association register under VR 846.
