History

Today's Segel-Club Nordstern Spandau e.V. was founded on 1 August 1920 as Wassersportverein Nordstern (WSVN). From 1915 water-sports enthusiasts met at the restaurant Zum Nordhafen in Spandau; the Bootshaus Oberhavel served as founding venue and early clubhouse. The aim was to promote working-class sailing and youth work. In 1922 the club joined the Freier Segler-Verband; sixteen sailors split off and founded Segel-Club Spandau. After locations at Nordhafen and Wilhelmsruh (1924–1930), the club found its permanent home in 1930 on the Rustwiesen at the Aalemann Canal with clubhouse, boat shed and jetties. Under the Nazi regime the Freier Segler-Verband was dissolved; from 1936 the club was named Segel-Club Nordstern and joined the German Sailing Association. After war, seizure and re-licensing in 1948 came clubhouse extensions, modernisations, national championships and the centenary in 2020. Today SCN is the largest Spandau sailing club on the Upper Havel with around 150 members.
