History

Segelclub Staffelsee e.V. was founded in 1964. Founding members included W. Feder, K. Vicinus, T. Schön, H. and E. Schilling, W. Henner, H. Huber, U. Behrens, and H. and R. Groth. Through H. Huber an initial club site east of the Bärtl baths was leased; debris was cleared and a boat ramp built. Wolfgang Feder became first president. In August 1964 the first regatta on Lake Staffelsee was held with 38 boats; since then the club has hosted the annual Feder memorial friendship regatta. In 1965 the first general meeting took place with 23 members. Frank Zarges and Max Waldherr built a jetty and a 14.5 m club mast; the first rowing boat was purchased. In 1967 the club briefly moved to Murnau Bay and later that year to the present site; conditions included toilets, road tarring, fencing and a car park. In 1968 the toilet shell was finished and the first Ganshaut regatta for Flying Dutchman held. Clubhouse construction began in 1969 (architect H. Groth, works by L. Muckenthaler, about 46,000 DM) and was inaugurated on 5 September 1970. Finn regattas followed (1970–1978), a motorboat was bought, a crane installed, and in 1972 the German Moth Championship with 40 boats. In 1973 W. Feder was named honorary chairman; windsurfers joined. In 1974 Opti and surfer regattas and work hours began; Günther Kafka brought the first Laser. In 1975 Friedel Feder became German women's surfing champion. From 1981 Peter Stanner led the club for 30 years; a slip and buoys were added. In 1984 the club celebrated 20 years; a storm damaged the grounds. In 1988/89 the clubhouse was rebuilt and a lawn added; 1989 saw an International German Championship in Schwertzugvogel and the 25th anniversary. The floating jetty was built 1993–1995. In 1998 the German FD Championship drew competitors from Poland and the UK. In 2001 www.scsts.de went online. In 2011 Peter Stanner handed over to Helmut Pfaffenberger; a new heating system was installed. In 2012 parking and paths were renewed. In 2014, for the 50th anniversary, SCSTS hosted the International German Championship in Schwertzugvogel. Today the club is a member of the German Sailing Federation, the Bavarian Sailing Federation and the Bavarian State Sports Federation and operates a webcam on the clubhouse roof.
