Segel-Club Sorpesee Iserlohn e.V.

Segel-Club Sorpesee Iserlohn e.V. (SCSI) is a traditional sports club on Lake Sorpe in Sundern-Langscheid, combining recreational and competitive sailing as a state support centre. The grounds offer a clubhouse, a pier with about 40 berths and a crane with slipway; parking is available at car park P6. Classes sailed include Optimist, Europe, ILCA, Finn-Dinghy, Dyas, H-Boot, Varianta, OK-Jolle and J/70, with ranking regattas on the Sorpesee. Juniors and adults enjoy an active club life with training, racing and cruising; more than 150 members and over 15 children shape the community. Since its founding in 1948 and the 1976 Olympic gold in the 470, the club has been a fixture of Sauerland sailing.

History

On 26 April 1948 the Segel- und Paddel-Club Sorpesee was founded at Gasthof Bührmann in Lendringsen with 19 founding members; Gustav Edelhoff became first chairman. The name evolved with DSV registration to Segel-Club Sorpesee Iserlohn (SCSI). Early sailing used home-built boats, later class boats such as Flying Dutchman, Pirat, Korsar and Schwertzugvogel; from the 1960s O-Jolle, Finn-Dinghy and 470 followed. In 1972 the club received its present site and a new pier; in 1973 the first clubhouse was inaugurated. In 1976 Frank Hübner and Harro Bode won Olympic gold in the 470 in Kingston, Canada. A crane with slipway opened in 1983, a youth boat shed in 1986. In 1998 SCSI celebrated its 50th anniversary. Arson destroyed the upper floor of the clubhouse in 2006; a new block-style clubhouse opened in 2007. In 2012 a new pier with 40 berths was built; J/70 training began in 2014 and the club entered the 2nd German Sailing Bundesliga in 2018. In 2023 SCSI hosted the ILCA IDMa with 66 entrants and celebrated its 75th anniversary; a new constitution was adopted in 2024.
