Segelclub Neusiedl West
Segelclub Neusiedl West (SCNW) is a volunteer-run sailing club with its own harbour and clubhouse at Segelhafen West on Lake Neusiedl in Neusiedl am See. Founded in 1983 as the interest group of berth holders, the club has helped shape harbour development including jetties, power and water connections and sanitary facilities. Members use a clubhouse with terrace, kitchen, overnight stays, SUP storage and ample parking; guest berths are available by prior arrangement. The programme includes regattas such as the SCNW Cup and Roundabout participation, cruises, club evenings, the jetty festival and the Women Sailing initiative. Beginners and experienced sailors find community without status thinking, including a trial membership and membership of the Austrian Sailing Federation.
History
Segelclub Neusiedl West (SCNW) was founded in 1983 as the interest group of berth holders at the west harbour in Neusiedl am See. The aim was to shape harbour development together with the municipality and improve infrastructure sustainably. In the 1970s the west harbour had already become home to many sailors; a historic harbour view from 1981 shows the original jetties and the former lakeside restaurant. What began with commitment has shaped West Harbour decisively: Segelhafen West is now among the finest harbour facilities on Lake Neusiedl. Jetties, power and water connections, parking design and sanitary extensions were accompanied, co-shaped or co-financed by SCNW. To this day the club works closely with leisure operators and the municipality to develop the harbour further. Sport and social life share equal weight: season opening and closing, the SCNW Cup, club evenings, talks, cruises and the harbour festival. Since 2026 a new digital logbook has been created; reports, results and photos from 1983 to 2025 remain in the archive of the former website. Today the club has about 58 members and is run entirely by volunteers.
