Sporthafen Bertholdsheim - Segelclub Neuburg Donau e.V. - SCND
SCND is a family-oriented sailing club on the Bertoldsheim Danube reservoir near Rennertshofen, founded in 1967 and a member of DSV, BSV and BLSV. On the club grounds with clubhouse, slipway, pontoons and dry storage, the club offers internal regattas, trial sailing, youth sailing camps and social events. Despite siltation and fluctuating water levels, the club promotes competitive regatta sailing and youth work with its own fleet.
History
On 12 June 1967, sailing enthusiasts met at the Neuhof inn in Neuburg an der Donau and founded Segelclub Neuburg. Registration in the association register followed on 28 July 1967 at the Neuburg district court, later Ingolstadt (VR 10282). The impetus was the reservoir at Bertoldsheim created by Rhein-Main-Donau AG, which enabled sailing in the region. After negotiations with authorities, the club was permitted to set buoys, use dam facilities, build a slipway and landing stage, and erect a clubhouse. The slipway was built in the founding year; buoys and a provisional floating pier followed. In spring 1968, Bundeswehr pioneers from Ingolstadt built a bridge over the flood channel; a member built a T-shaped landing stage, plus toilets and a small sewage plant. In summer 1968, access road and car park were created; clubhouse construction began in autumn and was completed in 1969 – all by member volunteer work and financing through interest-bearing club loan certificates. On 26 May 1968, a large opening regatta with about 23 boats took place at the bridge inauguration; the autumn regatta that year had nearly 50 entrants. As of 1 August 1969 the club had 60 members and was registered with the Bavarian State Sports Association. Over the following decades, internal regattas, youth work and successes on Bavarian and national waters shaped club life. SCND members won the European championship in the Windy class in 1981 and 1984; Ruth Mayerhofer won and defended the newly established Donau Cup of STCI Ingolstadt in 2022 and 2023. Lake Garda, Ammersee, Chiemsee and other large waters long served for training and holiday sailing. In 2017 SCND celebrated its 50th anniversary. For years the club has struggled with increasing siltation and drawdowns of the reservoir by Uniper/E.ON, making many keelboats unsuitable and causing member decline. The club currently has about 55 active and passive members, including no youth members, but continues to recruit through Pentecost sailing camps and trial sailing offers. In 2023 the general meeting unanimously elected Claus Mayerhofer as 1st chairman and appointed a new board. In 2025 SCND signed a lease agreement with Anglerverein Marxheim for shared use of slipway, pontoon and dry storage. Today the shallow waters suit mainly dinghies and boats with lifting keels; the club also promotes dinghy cruising and holds at least two internal regattas per season.
