Segel Club Laacher See Mayen (SCLM) e.V.

Segel Club Laacher See Mayen (SCLM) has more than 500 members and is one of the largest sailing clubs in Rhineland-Palatinate. Its home waters are Lake Laach in the Volcanic Eifel region. The club hosts ranking regattas on several weekends each year and offers training for the youth sailing certificate and inland sport boat licence. Sailing at SCLM can be competitive or relaxed – solo in a youth dinghy, as a crew of two or on larger boats, in light breezes or strong gusts, from April through golden September. The club grounds on the west shore offer beautiful views of the lake and invite members to wind down together after sailing.

History

Segel Club Laacher See Mayen (SCLM) was founded in 1969 and for more than 55 years has been the anchor of sailing sport on Lake Laach. Sailing training began in 1972, and the first issue of the club magazine "Vulkanbrise" appeared in 1973. Major infrastructure projects followed in the 1970s: the entrance was paved in 1974, the trust committee was founded in 1975 and the youth group received self-administration plus electricity and water connections, and the slipway was built in 1976. Moselle cruising trips began in 1977, the club hosted the Youth European Championship for Korsar boats in 1979, and the regatta barge was built in 1980. The walk around the lake was first held in 1984, and the German Conger Championship was hosted in 1987. The clubhouse was completed and the Zugvogel pier built in 1988, and the environmental committee was founded in 1989. A sailing ordinance took effect in 1990, the sailing boundary was extended to the southwest in 1991 ("Spiegelei"), a Holland training camp followed in 1993, an own lease contract in 1995, and the sanitary building in 1998. The club hosted the German Conger Championship in 1999 and 2010. The youth group grew to more than 100 members in 2009, the three-boat rule was modernised in 2013, and the lease was extended early in 2014. In 2015 the Rhineland-Palatinate club championship was held on B-One boats. The SCLM celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. Today the club has more than 500 members, is one of the largest sailing clubs in Rhineland-Palatinate, actively promotes youth sailing, trains children and adults in sailing courses, and organises major regattas on Lake Laach every year.
