Segel Club Linkenheim e.V.

Segel Club Linkenheim e.V. (SCLH) was founded on 9 March 1969 and sails today on Lake Rohrköpfle in Linkenheim-Hochstetten. The club is one of the largest Varianta fleets in south-west Germany and offers a maritime clubhouse with lighthouse, youth rooms, pontoon, slipway and crane facility. Its focus is on racing, cruising and youth sailing within the amateur spirit of the sport. Each year the club hosts regattas including opening-of-season sailing, the Baden Varianta championship, South Cup, South-West fleet championship and the traditional Lighthouse Regatta; visitors interested in sailing are warmly invited to get to know the club.

History

In 1967 four young men from Linkenheim decided to build their own sailing boats and chose the national Korsar dinghy class. After completing the boats, these four sailors together with three others founded Segel Club Linkenheim (SCLH) on 9 March 1969 and registered the club with the German Sailing Association and in the club register. Two of the original Korsar dinghies still sail in the region today. The first sailing area was Lake Streitköpfle; members improvised a pontoon and slipway and held the first regattas. In 1975 the club moved to Lake Rohrköpfle; in 1997 it relocated to the leisure area developed by the municipality at the upper end of the lake. The clubhouse with youth rooms was built largely by members' own labour over six years and inaugurated on 10 July 1999; a visible lighthouse marks the way to the club. From the initial Korsar dinghies a substantial fleet of Varianta yachts developed; SCLH is today one of the strongest Varianta fleets in south-west Germany. In the 1970s many members and guests were trained; trips to other sailing areas and charter voyages followed to Lake Garda, the Netherlands and the Mediterranean. Cooperation with Linkenheim primary and secondary school, which offered sailing as an extracurricular activity, led to the youth section; club-owned boats are now available for youth work. In 2010 a crane facility was approved and built by members. Ranking regattas with strong external participation, including the Baden championship, South Cup, South-West fleet championship and the Lighthouse Regatta held under the club lighthouse since 2002, shape the club's sporting calendar.
