Segelclub Kronstorf

Segelclub Kronstorf (SCKT) is a family-friendly, socially active sailing club on the Enns reservoir Thaling in the municipality of Kronstorf in Upper Austria, between Steyr and Enns near Linz. The club grounds are the only sailing club in Austria located on an island and are reached via a floating bridge; the season runs from April to October. Members have access to club-owned sailing boats, including two Optimists for juniors and club boats for crewing and training. The programme includes sailing with experienced members, joint regattas with the clubs on the reservoir, club days every third Friday, and social events. Since 2017 SCKT has been a licensed training centre of the Austrian Sailing Federation for the inland BFA qualification. Founded in 1972, the club combines sporting development with a relaxed island club life.

History

Segelclub Kronstorf was founded in 1972. Dedicated members built a sporting and socially active club on the Enns reservoir in Kronstorf. According to its statutes, the club promotes sailing on a non-profit basis, develops young sailors, and fosters social contact among members and with related clubs. The club grounds lie on an island at the head of the roughly two-kilometre Enns reservoir Thaling; for several years the island has been reachable via a floating bridge. SCKT is regarded as the only sailing club in Austria on an island. The facility operates from April to October and is brought to life by members on many days of the year. In 2022 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a commemorative publication and around 250 guests reviewing five decades of beginnings and achievements. Since 2017 Segelclub Kronstorf has been a licensed training centre of the Austrian Sailing Federation and offers annual courses and exams for the inland BFA. Several times a year regattas are held together with the other sailing clubs on reservoir Thaling; in 2024 a two-day regatta was staged on the island again after many years. Alongside sailing, club days, midsummer celebrations, trips and social events continue to shape club life.
