Schlierseer Segel-Club e.V.
Traditional sailing club on Lake Schliersee with its own club grounds on the northern shore, active regatta racing for the Blue Ribbon trophy, and dedicated youth sailing.
History
On 19 July 1961, nine sailing enthusiasts from the Schliersee valley met at the Milchhäusl café to lay the foundations for the Schlierseer Segel Club (SSC). The club joined the BLSV the following day; it was entered in the register of associations on 2 July 1963 and recognised by the DSV on 15 May 1963. Horst Hornfeck, Erich Kogler, Peter Kogler, M. Lindner, Sepp Mayer, Helmut Ostermeier, Sixtus Pötzinger, Elisabeth Sachs, Berthold Schwab and Fritz Windisch were the founding members and remained loyal to the club for the most part to this day. Four years after its foundation, the club leased land on the northern lakeshore and established club grounds with the first own mooring places. Over many years of volunteer work, the originally undeveloped site was upgraded and access to the lake was created; members also built a landing stage and slipway themselves. In 1977 preparations began for a much-needed club hut; planning started in 1978, construction in 1980, and in 1981 the hut with changing rooms, shower, toilet and a cosy veranda was completed. Throughout the club's history and to the present day, numerous regattas have been held, dominated by the traditional race for the annual Blue Ribbon on Lake Schliersee. Long-standing members shaped the club over decades: Fritz Grahammer, known as Stutz, was a member for more than 57 years, served as grounds keeper from 1967 to 1981 and again from 2008 to 2012, won the Blue Ribbon in 1974 on a Flying Dutchman, and supported race management for over three decades. In recent years volunteers have built a new swimming pontoon, a capstan winch and further infrastructure on the club grounds. The club is registered as Schlierseer Segel-Club e.V. (VR 60099), BLSV no. V11424 and DSV no. BA038.
