History

Segelclub Gießen e.V. appears publicly under the short name SCG'84 and maintains its club grounds on Dutenhofener See. The club is entered in the register of associations at the Gießen local court under VR 1451 and is a member of the German Sailing Federation (DSV no. H049), the Hessian Sailing Federation and the Hesse State Sports Federation. Core activities are dinghy and youth sailing on inland water together with regularly hosted regattas such as the Gießen town championship, club championship series and Aquila ranking regattas. The youth section teaches theory and practice up to the junior certificate and provides Optimists, Lasers, 470s and RS Fevas for training. Since 5 April 2019 the club has trained with Stefan Zink, who holds DSV sailing instructor licence A. The club also documents taster sailing, SBF, SKS and radio training courses as well as cruising offers such as flotilla trips to the Danish South Sea. In this way SCG'84 has established itself as a sailing venue on Dutenhofener See with a strong training and regatta programme.
