Segel-Club Frithjof-Haveleck e.V.
Segel-Club Frithjof-Haveleck (SCF-H) is a traditional sailing club on the car-free island of Valentinswerder in Lake Tegel, right in Berlin. The club grounds at Insel Valentinswerder 15 are reachable only by ferry or boat and offer about 30 berths, a slipway, a small crane, and a clubhouse with kitchen, barbecue and dormitory. The club fleet includes Optimists, Pirates, a Europe dinghy and the youth ketch Peter Robert; the focus is cruising and club life rather than competitive racing. Young sailors can learn from age seven, and the club hosts the well-known Wahre Weiber Wettfahrt. Founded in 1904, the island setting with nature, calm and a high share of women sailors shapes club life.
History
Segel-Club Frithjof-Haveleck traces back to the founding of Club Frithjof on 24 November 1904 in Berlin. The purchase of the yacht Frithjof in 1901 sparked the group; its cradle was the Schwarzer Ball harbour. Founders were Erich Arndt, Emil Beutel, Rudolf Lips, and Walter and Adolf Schlegel. In 1906 the club moved to Valentinswerder island; in 1909 it bought plot No. 15 with villa and water access and was entered in the register of associations. After a new pier in 1910 and expansions came federation membership in 1917, a youth section in 1921, and over 200 members by 1929. World War II destroyed the house and fleet. In 1950 the Yacht-Club Frithjof Stößensee split off; members loyal to Valentin rebuilt the club. In 1952 a merger with Segelclub Haveleck created Segel-Club Frithjof-Haveleck e.V. Later decades brought steel cruising dinghies, piers, sanitary facilities and a strong youth fleet with Optis, Pirates, Europe and the youth ketch Peter Robert acquired in 1997. Since 1999 the club has hosted the Wahre Weiber Wettfahrt – Germany’s first women-only regatta. Today SCF-H is a small island club on Lake Tegel focused on cruising and community life.

Cruising on Lake Tegel, the Havel and further to the Baltic and beyond, in-house races, the Wahre Weiber Wettfahrt, Saatwinkler Ecke, youth sailing on Optimist, Pirate and the ketch Peter Robert, plus weekend club life with barbecue and overnight stays on the island.
Youth section
Active youth section: sailing from age seven on Optimist and Pirate, later on the youth ketch Peter Robert; focus on shared sailing rather than high-performance sport; youth room, trampoline and table tennis; bronze swimming badge required; no public sailing lessons for non-members at present.
